Age: late 30s

History: History
Personality:
Negatively, Quentin is a perfectionist. He has an attention to detail that verges on obsession, a level of dedication to his craft that manifests in controlling and possessive behavior. This perfectionism is a part of what drove the wedge between himself and Tony Stark, increasing the tensions that were already starting to emerge prior to his separation from Stark Tech. While working on perfecting the Mysterio projection and holodrone technologies, Quentin's perfectionism hits a high point: one of the drones is missing a projector, which causes a slight lag in the system and may potentially threaten their cover story. This leads to a threatening confrontation between Quentin and one of his crew mates, and drives him after Peter Parker. Quentin's volatile temper stems from his perfectionism and narcissism, making him an unpredictable man with a tendency toward violent or terrifying outbursts. His perfectionism also leads him to make contingencies, assume the worst in others, and attempt to plan for every eventuality. Quentin is narcissistic. As much about self-absorption as about projection, Quentin is fixated on his own brilliance. He views others as a potential limitation and also as a stepping stone in getting what he wants. In the midst of his narcissism, he's incapable of considering the full ramifications of his actions, or appreciating that other people may not be out for as selfish gains as he himself is. He sees Tony Stark's use of the Binarily Augmented Retro-Framing (B.A.R.F.) as not only an act of theft, as Tony presents the project as his own, but also a waste of important technology as its turned into an overpriced virtual reality therapist. It's the combination of E.D.I.T.H (an artificial intelligence attached to the holodrones) and B.A.R.F that Quentin seeks, considering this the culmination of his life's work and himself as the only one truly capable of handling the weight of responsibility. Quentin believes his actions and the creation of Mysterio are necessary, but that he is ultimately the only one capable of stepping into the void left by the Avengers. Like his perfectionism, Quentin's narcissism often manifests in violent outbursts and an inability to tolerate others' shortcomings or perceived missteps; it also makes Quentin dismissive of the impact he has on other people. Above all else, Quentin leans into being manipulative. Because he's the best and the brightest in the room, in his own eyes, he does his best to guide others into believing it as well. To Nick Fury and Maria Hill, Quentin becomes the answer to an unspoken question of who steps into the place of the Avengers. Quentin creates the Mysterio persona and the whole fabrication about his identity specifically because he knows it will create a believable and malleable scenario for him to work with. With Peter, Quentin presents himself as a paternal/fraternal support, knowing that Peter has been kept under the tutelage of Tony Stark. He reads situations well, and uses people's weaknesses against them in hopes of improving his own situation.

Positively, Quentin's creativity is what led him to Stark Tech in the first place, and how he was able to do so well there prior to his eventual breakdown. He has a certain understanding of the more theoretical concepts, and a tendency to think outside the box. His creativity allows him to work well independently as well as in a select group. With the right direction and cultivation, Quentin's creativity could be used for any number of brilliant projects and important ventures; he tends to feed it into his manipulative behavior. Quentin not only had the ingenuity to create B.A.R.F but also has the creativity to speculate on other applications of a highly interactive and immersive holographic VR system. He is the driving force behind the crew that creates Mysterio, not only because he's the face of it but also because he can contain and interact most easily with the VR, and because he has a long-reaching perspective on where he wants to go and how to get there. Though, like his creativity, Quentin feeds his perceptive nature into manipulation more often than not, this quality is something necessary for working with people, understanding social cues, and generally putting forth a kind and genial nature. To Peter, Quentin comes off as astute, understanding, and kind, and this is exactly how Quentin wants to appear for him. He has his best opportunity to win Peter's trust by presenting a kind and compassionate personality; all of this comes from a deep understanding of other people and their specific needs and situations. More sinisterly, Quentin uses his perceptive understanding of Peter to turn his fears against him and make him more susceptible to the VR. While Quentin uses his perceptiveness for contrived and evil ends, his fundamental understanding of other people has the potential for great compassion. Quentin's intelligence might not put him on par with Tony or Bruce Banner, but it is a defining trait and large part of his identity. Quentin was initially known as a brilliant engineer, programmer, and holographer for Stark Tech. Though he's still an obscure name outside of that community, his intelligence, dedication to the science and craft, and general charisma are what draw other disillusioned former Stark Tech employees to him. When Peter questions the existence of the multiverse and goes off on a small rant about how its existence would alter certain quantum physics theorems, Quentin hastily encourage him, proud of the brilliance the boy displays and responding in kind to his curiosity--even if it's only questioning a fabrication of reality. He is the one that brilliantly programmed and constructed the original B.A.R.F technology, he is the one that embodies the story he and his team craft for Mysterio, and his technical as well as tactical intelligence is something that he's genuinely proud of.
